Frontier Science

The research activity of our program covers three Frontiers; Frontier in Computing Sciences, Frontier in Molecular Chemistry and Frontier in Condensed Matter Physics. The Principle of our education is two-fold. One is to educate students as the scientists who can carry out innovative fundamental researches related to designing and development of new materials such as functional molecules. The other is to train them as the professional scientists who can conduct applied researches with a wide range of knowledge and flexibility.

All students in the frontiers are supervised by the professors who all carry excellent research and educational records in various advanced research fields. Molecular and materials designing based on mathematics and simulation, synthetic of functional molecules and new materials by means of the techniques based on pure physics and chemistry, and the evaluation of thus obtained materials and functions by innovative instrumentation, are only some of the research topics students will be able to learn in this program.

Requirements for the Degree Program
Master's Program (MS degree) - the two-year first term

1 Credits: Each student should get a total of at least 30 credits of courses in any research programs of the Graduate School of Pure and Applied Sciences and research group seminar organized by the research advisers.
2. MS Thesis: After receiving enough number of credits of the course, students are eligible to submit a thesis work. After passing the oral examination, MS degree will be granted. Excellent students can be examined in a period shorter than two years with completion of the course work credit.

Doctoral Program (PhD degree) - the three-year second term

1. Submission of Abstract for PhD Thesis: The abstract for the PhD thesis should be submitted and examined in the third year.
2. Those doctoral candidates who have passed the above preliminary examination are eligible to submit the PhD thesis. The PhD thesis committee will decide whether the degree is granted based on the quality of the thesis and the final oral presentation. It is possible to complete the Doctoral Program in a period shorter than three years depending on the progress of the student.
